"Crazy Heart" is a film we have all seen before and much like "The Blind Side", its elevated to new levels by a tremendous central performance. Jeff Bridges is terrific here and supported by Maggie Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell and Robert Duvall. All the actors never come across as fake, each performance is fine tuned and resonant. Bridges steals the show with a role tailor made for him. Set in the far reachest of space in the 10,191 there stands a desolate planet called Arrakis (a.k.a. Emperor Padisha Shaddam IV (Jose Ferrer) rules the galactic empire sends out Duke Leto Artedis (Jurgen Prochnow), wife Lady Jessica (Fracesca Annis) and son Paul (Kyle MacLachan) to Arrakis where they must take charge of the spice business. however the overweight floating villain known as Baron Vladmire Harkonnen (Kenneth Mcmillian) wants control of the spice as well for evil purposes but when Paul and his mother are sent to the dangerous deserts where giant man-eating sandworms prowl, they discover an underground colony of people called Fremen and Paul finds true love with a native named Chano (Sean Young). Later he will become a powerful messiah of great powers called Maud'dib of the Fremen as he will lead an army to stop the manufactoring of the spice.

A very flawed but somewhat enjoyable Sci-fi fantasy movie that is quite a loose adaptation of Frank Herbert's timeless Sci-fi/fantasy novel classic. It took 20 years to get the book to the big screen until Dino De Laurentiis studios got the rights as originally Ridley Scott was set to direct but went on to do Blade Runner instead so they got David Lynch who wrote and direct the movie. Some of the casting isn't too bad as it includes Sian Philips, Dean Stockwell, Paul Smith, Brad Douriff, Sting (Him playing Feyd was a nice casting choice), Freddie Jones, Linda Hunt, Max Von Sydow and Patrick Stewart as Gurnie as the other cast members but Mclachen was a good casting choice for Paul. The special effects are very good for it's time and the music score by Brain Eno & Toto is good but this adaptation is very muddled and not very satisfying for fans of the novel but it's still very entertaining and not as bad as you heard from critics and audiences over the years.

This 2-Disc DVD set contains a nice tin collectable packaging with both the extended version which is longer and of course the theatrical edition as it has some cool extras like photo galleries, featurettes and deleted scenes.

The Matrix (10th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray] Right now

Just a quick thumbs up. I first saw this on DVD back in '99 and it has always been a favorite. Watching it on blu a few days ago, it was better than I remember, both audio and video. but of course the video is better in HD!

But the transfer is superb compared to any other out there, it truly looks great. Between the picture and sound, I had some rare moments of feeling the screen pressing towards me, that feeling that you are falling or about top be hit.

I find this is one of the best movie experiences I've ever had. Turn your subwoofer on with the rest of your surround, crank it up, set your TV to a nice bright, balanced picture and let the matrix take you.

Oh and don't let 'the haters' keep you from enjoying the sequels. Even I have a hard time through one or two over the top action sequences but I still enjoy them all. But it's this one, the first that will give you the most chills.

Lowest Price Last Man Standing / The Last Boy Scout (Action Double Feature) [Blu-ray]

While I have never seen The Last Boy Scout, I have seen Last Man Standing MORE than once! This is a great movie with LOTS of action! Bruce Willis plays "John Smith" a lone gunman who rolls into a town run by two feuding gangs and decides to go to work for the gang that pays the most. If your a fan of 20's era gangster films with LOTS of shooting, then this movie is about as good as it gets. Christopher Walken does an AMAZING job in this movie as well as Bruce Willis.
